Approximately 1,200 workers are busy building the new Cyclone -4 launch complex at Brazil’s Alcantara Launch Center, according to a press release from the National Space Agency of Ukraine (HCA).

An HCA delegation visited the nascent launch complex from April 21-30 to view progress on the joint Brazilian-Ukrainian program and to discuss organizational, technical, financial and business planning issues with their Brazilian counterparts.

At the general meeting held on April 7, the group discussed the creation of a working group to prepare an in-depth analysis of the business plan as well as the need to increase capital for the project. They also reviewed the project’s financial statements and a report from an independent auditor. Members were also elected members to the Finance Board and the Board of Directors of Alcantara Cyclone Space, the company that is running the program.

The Ukrainian rocket is an upgraded version of the Soviet-era Cyclone-3 ICBM, which was later adapted for use as a satellite launcher. Officials are planning an inaugural launch from Alcantara in late 2013.
