The Brazil’s National Institute for Space Research (Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais – INPE) will attend the international conference Planet Under Pressure 2012 (March 26 to 29, London), presenting 19 posters and attending 6 sessions.

The researcher Patrícia Pinho will be at the panel discussion “Delivering governance for global sustainability across scales”, March 29. The remaining papers will be presented by other 49 researchers from different areas of the Institute, most of them from the Center for Earth System Science.

The scientists will share the knowledge generated by research on global environmental change in tropical forests, water resources, land use transitions, renewable energy, vulnerability of Brazilian megacities, food security, public policies and sustainable consumption, among others.

The Planet Under Pressure 2012 will be a major international conference focusing on solutions to face the challenge of global sustainability. Based on recent scientific evidences, aims to provide a complete upgrade of the knowledge about the earth system and the current pressure on the planet.

The event in London will draw world attention to climate issues, ecological degradation, human welfare, planetary boundaries, food security, energy and governance at different scales, as well as reducing poverty, in pursuit of a sustainable path.

The conference is the groundwork for Rio +20, to take place in Rio de Janeiro, June 2012.
