Trails, exhibitions in public spaces, lectures and courses are among the activities planned by the National Institute for Space Research (Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais – INPE) for the Brazilian National Week of Science and Technology 2011, on October 17-23. This year, the event's theme is "Climate Change, Natural Disasters and Risk Prevention".

The Program of São José Campos (SP) is going to be developed in collaborations with Rede CLIMA, Brazilian National Institute of Science and Tecnology for Climate Change (Instituto Nacional de Ciência e Tecnologia para Mudanças Climáticas), the Environment Secretariat of São José dos Campos, the local Civil Defense and Urban Management Company. On October 18 (Tuesday), 50 elementary-school teachers from São Francisco Xavier (SP), are going to participate in the trail on "Degraded environment x Preserved environment". The goal is to enable them to teach the theme in class, bringing students the reality of the environment where they live.

On Wednesday, 19, 160 elementary-school students from Municipal schools IIlga Pusplatais, Antonio Palma and Projeto Decolar are going to participate in the trail at the city´s Park. There will also be a workshop with models of natural disaster and a mini lecture. The trails and workshops will be coordinated by researchers and scholars from INPE, Rede CLIMA and Brazilian National Science and Technology Institute for Climate Change (INCT para Mudanças Climáticas), and environmental education professionals of the Environment Secretariat.

An exhibition is going to be mounted on October 20 (Thursday) and there will be distributed educational booklets on Climate Change and Natural Disasters. Panels are going to present researches on impacts and mitigation of the global climate change. The same exhibition is going to be moved to the Vale Sul Shopping Mall, on October 21.

Also on 20, 7.30 pm, researcher Marcos Sanches speaks to students of Environmental Management from SENAC SJCampos on "Climate Change - my new routine."
